I would first like to thank the writing team who worked so hard to produce this book. Your tireless efforts during the difficult schedule have been nothing short of amazing. Also a huge thanks goes to the team at Que Publishing especially Linda Harrison, Alice Martina Smith, Matt Purcell, and Andy Beaster. Your hard work and attention to detail is unmatched. Thank you to my wife Juri Smick for her patience and understanding during the writing of this book and for sharing a scoop of ice cream with me on so many evenings. Thank you to my parents John and Ruth Smick who have been so understanding and always checked in to see if I was still alive. Also a special thank you to my friends Don Birkenmeyer and Susan Smith for your helpfulness and your infinite technical knowledge and support.

I owe my sincerest thanks to a great number of people: First and foremost to Mike Smick for bringing me on board this project. Turns out you were rightI knew a lot more about InDesign than I thought I did.

To my colleagues, as well as the teachers and students I meet every day who constantly impress me with their ability to make these programs do what they want them to do: You inspire me and make me not feel crazy for loving software. To Linda Harrison and everyone at Que for their support and attention. To Alice Martina Smith, Kate Binder, and Nancy Albright for making sure the thoughts in my head got onto the page in a coherent, logical, and grammatically correct manner. You brought clarity to a sometimes jumbled mess. To my friends and family for their patience and love during this project and every day. You mean more to me than I can ever express. And especially to my friend Mike Callero, who has supported every word I've ever put on paper, whether he's read them all or not.
