Chapter 11.  Creating Accessible Tables

This chapter and the previous two on equivalent alternatives and forms, respectively present accessibility solutions that can be achieved using HTML alone. In the next four chapters, we move on to consider several other technologies commonly used to create and deliver Web-based content. We start in Chapter 12 with Adobe Systems' powerful and immensely popular Portable Document Format (PDF), which has become very nearly the de facto standard for publishing certain types of information electronically (such as white papers, technical reports, and, until recently, government documents). Chapter 13 explains how to anticipate and avoid potential accessibility problems posed by multimedia materials and how to use multimedia to enhance accessibility and reach a wider audience. In Chapter 14 we explore accessibility solutions for scripting and embedded applications such as multimedia players. Finally, in Chapter 15, we demonstrate how you can use Cascading Style Sheets to enhance accessibility while creating Web documents that are both easy to maintain and visually appealing.
