Upgrade 1: Replacing Your Monitor

Upgrade #1: Replacing Your Monitor

Replacing your monitor isn't much more complex than disconnecting your old one and reconnecting the new one. Just follow these steps:

  1. Close Windows and power off your system.

  2. Power off your old monitor and remove it from its power source.

  3. Disconnect the video cable running from your old monitor to your system unit, and then set your old monitor aside.

If you upgraded to a larger monitor, you might want to switch to a higher screen resolution. See "Configuring Your Display Properties," later in this chapter, for instructions.

  4. Set your new monitor in place.

  5. Use the supplied video cable to connect your new monitor to the video connector on the back of your system unit.

  6. Connect your new monitor to a power source.

  7. Power on your new monitor.

  8. Power on your computer, and then restart your computer.

  9. If your new monitor came with an installation program, run it now. Otherwise, you're done.
