Editing Groups

Groups can be drag-copied, moved, and length-adjusted in the Arrange window.

To move a group

1.

Click any group box in the Arrange window to select it.

2.

Drag the selected box to a new location.

Tip

  • By default, the Arrange window is conveniently set to a one-bar grid value. If you want finer control, change the grid value before moving your group.

To duplicate a group

1.

Select the group(s) you wish to duplicate.

2.

Hold Ctrl (Win)/Cmd (Mac) and drag the group to a new location.

The original group will remain where it was, and a new group will be copied to the new location.

To lengthen or shorten a group

1.

Select the group(s) you wish to edit.

The selected group will darken and a length handle will appear to the right of the group (Figure 10.4).

Figure 10.4. Groups display length handles when selected.

2.

Click and hold the mouse on the length handle and drag left to shorten the group and right to lengthen it.

Lengthening and shortening a group has no effect on the MIDI data inside or outside the group; it merely changes what's included in the group.

To ungroup

1.

Select the group(s) you wish to edit.

2.

Choose the Edit > Ungroup command.

MIDI data inside and outside the group are not affected by the Ungroup function.

Editing multiple groups

Selecting, moving, or editing multiple groups simultaneously works best if your group boundaries follow your song sections.

You may find that a simple arrangement doesn't require much more than duplicating song sections to fill out a predetermined song length.

To move multiple groups

1.

Shift-select the groups you want to move.

2.

Click and drag the groups to a new location and release the mouse.

Tip

  • You can also duplicate and adjust the length of multiple groups after Shift-selecting them.
