Objective 4.3: Troubleshoot Security Settings and Local Security Policy

As a DST, you will typically not be responsible for configuring security policies, but you will need to troubleshoot issues related to security. Large companies look for ways to centralize administration and simplify the management of hundreds of users by the use of security settings and policies. These security settings make it easier to restrict user access and to control password security as well as logon and audits. A security policy can be configured and applied to a domain or an organizational unit as opposed to individuals. As a DST, you want to be aware of security policies and how they can affect an individual’s ability to access a resource or log on to a computer.

To answer the questions in this objective, you should know how local security policies and security settings function and the effect they can have on your users. You should also be aware of several tools that are used in the application of security policies, such as Security Configuration and Analysis and Resultant Set of Policy (RSoP).
