Opening a Flash document's Library without actually opening the document itself is a useful option. For the most part, the purpose of doing this is to extract its assets for use in your current document. In Flash MX, you would do this by selecting Open As Library under the File menu, but in Flash MX 2004 there's simply no way to do this. Okay, yes there is, it's just a little hidden. To find the same feature in MX 2004, you'll need to go under File and choose Import, then Open External Library. Sounds completely different, doesn't it? Regardless, this is the same command as Open As Library, and if you remembered the keyboard shortcut (CTRL-SHIFT-O or CMD-SHIFT-O on the Mac) from the old days, then you wouldn't even have to bother with this new terminology. Now you know, and knowing is half the battle.
