Chapter 30. Project Tune-Ups

You're three days into your first iteration. What can you do to keep the focus on quality? Everyone on your XP team has a vested interest in quality. XP practices are designed to let you do high-quality work, but only if you practice them with discipline. The retrospectives described in Chapter 26 help you see where you need to fine-tune your practices.

In this chapter, we'll look at parts and labor we've used for our own tune-ups. We'll talk about how we enhanced or changed XP practices so we could implement them in a way that worked for our projects. These ideas might work for you (or might not!) At the very least, we hope to inspire you to make your own creative modifications to XP.

Again, none of these things is a tester function. We present them here because you, as a team member focused on quality, can provide some leadership in finding ways to make the team more successful.

First, a caveat: your team must master using all the XP practices together before customizing XP to fit your own needs.
