Using Google Maps for Enterprise

Your business can license Google Maps for use in Web site and stand-alone applications. Your application programmers can integrate corporate data into Google Maps to perform instant display of customer locations, equipment failure hotspots, corporate locations, and any other way corporate data can be integrated into your business.

To get started with Google Maps for Enterprise point your Web browser to www.google.com/enterprise/maps/.

Google Maps for Enterprise uses the Google Maps API to customize control over the map interface. With this API, you can give the user as much or as little control as you want over the map. You can plot important locations and have pop-ups display even more information. Chapter 39 provides more information about using the Google Maps API.

While the Google Maps API is free for public Web sites, Google Maps for Enterprise is not. Paying for the Enterprise version of Google Maps gives businesses user telephone support and the ability to include Google Maps into nonpublic sites and applications - something you can’t do with the free version. Also, some day Google will display advertising on Google Maps, and the Enterprise version will have the ability to disable these ads.

Note

While Google provides maps of the entire world, Google Maps for Enterprise is licensed only in the U.S. and Canada.
