4.8 Further Reading

Data types are central to every introductory text on computer science, such as [DEI02] or [LEW03]. The concepts involved in memory management in Java can be found in several disciplines in computer science. For example, books on programming languages, such as Sebesta [SEB99], cover many of the basic concepts of objects, as well as overviews of basic garbage collection. A more detailed analysis of garbage collection algorithms can be found in many books on data structures and algorithms, such as Aho et al. [AHO93]. Details on serialization can be found in the Java specification for serialization [SUN02b] and reflection [SUN02a], as well as the Java Beans specification [SUN96]. Finally, the best place to find information on the many different types of collection classes in Java is the tutorial provided by Sun [MAG02], as well as the javadoc for the java.util package. Eckle [ECK98] also has a good section that describes these classes.
