Exporting a Sequence

Exporting a Sequence

A section on exporting is inherently flawed because there is no "correct" way to export your sequence. Exporting always depends on how you plan on using the file once it's exported. There are thousands of combinations for exporting your sequence. Again, how you plan on using the exported file will dictate these settings. The best advice when it comes to exporting your sequence is to practice using different settings to see the different results.

This section explains some of the options and settings that are available to you when exporting your sequence. To export a sequence from Avid Xpress Pro, select the sequence you want to export and choose Export from the File menu. A very simple dialog box will appear. The settings in this dialog box are the same settings you last used (see Figure 15.27).

Now at first glance, this seems to be a simple process, but let's explore some of the options you have when you export a sequence. To see your options, click on the Options button in the Export As dialog box. This will open the Export Settings dialog box (see Figure 15.28).

In the Export Settings dialog box you can select the file type used to export your sequence. Which one you use depends on what you want to do with the file that is going to be exported. The Export Settings dialog box will change depending on which type of file you want to create. For example, say you simply want to export the audio tracks. If you choose Audio from the Export As pull-down menu, the Export Settings dialog box will change to reflect your choice (see Figure 15.29).

Again, there is no "correct" method here. If you need to export your file to be used on the Internet, that's quite a different type of export than exporting a file that is going to be transferred to another software program, such as Adobe After Effect.

I suggest that you open each option and view their settings. Some have very few settings and adjustments; other have numerous options. Refer to your user guide or the help file that comes with your Avid Xpress Pro for more information about exporting. It's not a complicated process; it's just a matter of determining how you plan on using the file after it's exported.
