One of Avid Xpress Pro's greatest effects features is its capability to perform a nest or add an effect inside another effect. I hope the several examples created in this chapter help you understand the process of ordering and how an effect can be nested inside another effect. Once you have a grasp on how nesting is different than layering, you'll start to build effects with a different mindset.
Think of nesting whenever you want to change something "inside" of something else.
There are two ways to view a nestone method is to step into the nest; the other is to expand the nest.
You must have an effect on a clip to nest into the clip. The effect can be a segment effect or a transition effect.
Nesting is very powerful feature when working with picture-in-picture effects.
Additional tracks can be added to a nest.
Titles can be nested inside effects.
Auto-nesting allows you to add two effects to a clip and automatically place clips inside a nest.
The Collapse feature drops tracks stacked on top of each other into a nest.
The fill channel of a title can be edited, thus allowing you to fill a title with moving video or a still image.
You cannot nest into an audio track. I know I never mentioned this in this chapter; this is simply for those people who always ask me this very question.
