The Future of the WorldWide WarDrive

 < Day Day Up >

Had the results of the third WorldWide WarDrive continued to show a decrease in the number of access points that were being deployed securely, or if the message was not effectively being communicated to the general public, I had planned to end the project. Thankfully, this was not the case. The results from the third WWWD were encouraging enough for the project to continue forward.

Some exciting changes are on the horizon for the WorldWide WarDrive. The success of the automated upload procedure inspired me to continue to automate the WWWD processes. In addition to the upload form, the data will be analyzed in real-time and the statistics updated as the results come in. This change will become effective with the fourth WWWD, which will take place in the summer of 2004. By the fifth WorldWide WarDrive, the maps will be generated in real-time as well. This will complete the automation process and provide participants in the WWWD with instant feedback.

The WWWD will continue to be an annual event until either there is no longer interest from the WarDriving and security communities, or the state of wireless security significantly improves. Once the WWWD is no longer relevant, it will end.
