Use Rendezvous to Surf Local Web Sites

Task #84

Difficulty Level 2

If you have Mac Web sites running on your local network, you can locate them and view them with Safari. There is no need to save a bookmark for those Web sites because Safari can find them on the network for you.

Safari accomplishes this nifty trick through the magic of Rendezvous. Rendezvous is the name of the technology that Apple uses to automatically find services on a network. With Rendezvous, there is no need for IP addresses or domain names. It just finds them; it is just that simple.

Did You Know?

Just because you are running one Web server does not mean that only one Web site will appear in Rendezvous. The default installation of the Apache Web server in Mac OS X creates a Web site for each user on a machine as well as one for the root of the machine. So you may see as many as six Web sites if the Web server has five users.
