Copying the Lesson Files

This book includes an APTS_OptimizingFCP DVD, which holds all the files you will need to complete the lessons. All files are contained in the Opt FCP Book Files folder. Within that folder, there is a Lessons folder and a Media folder containing the applicable project and media files for those lessons that include exercises.

While installing these files on your computer, it's important to keep all of the numbered Lesson folders together in the main Lessons folder on your hard drive. If you copy the Opt FCP Book Files folder directly from the DVD to your hard drive, you should not have to reconnect your project files to the media.

Installing the Lesson Files

You will need approximately 4.5 GB of free disk space on either your hard drive or a separate media drive to copy all the project and media files for this book.

1.

Put the APTS_OptimizingFCP DVD into your computer's DVD drive.

2.

Drag the Opt FCP Book Files folder to your media drive or your computer's hard drive.

3.

Eject the disk. Do not launch the project files from your hard drive until you have ejected the disk.

Reconnecting Broken Media Links

In the process of copying the media from this book's DVD, you may break a link between the project file and the media file. If this happens, the next time you open a project file, a window will appear saying that it can't find a file and asking you to reconnect the project files. Reconnecting the project files is a simple process. Just follow these steps:

1.

If the Can't Find File window appears, click the Find File button.

2.

Navigate to where the Lessons folder resides on your hard drive or media drive, then go to the specific Projects or Media subfolder for the current lesson.

3.

Select the media file you wish to reconnect from the File Browser. Click the Use Selected Path to Reconnect Other Missing Files box. Click the Choose button. This should reconnect all the media for that project.

4.

Repeat steps 2 and 3 until all the project files have been reconnected.
