4.9 Composite Data Types

4.9 Composite Data Types

Composite data types, also known as aggregate data types, are those that are built up from other (generally scalar) data types. This chapter will cover several of the more important composite data types — character strings, character sets, arrays, records, and unions. A string is a good example of a composite data type: It is a data structure built up from a sequence of individual characters and some other data.
