Your Call to Action

This is the first chapter that really discussed programming techniques to the extent that you're planning for a Web site or application that relies on Google Web Services. Previous chapters have demonstrated the useful features of Google Web Services and even shown how these features work by exposing the Web service process. Completing this chapter means that you're ready to look at language-specific issues and get your application running.

Now that you've spent some time discovering the Web service process and deciding what Google Web Services can do for you, it's time to consider the design of your application. This chapter presented useful information that you need to develop a good design. However, it concentrated on Google Web Services, rather than general development principles. Now is the time to learn about these other principles, if you haven't worked with them already. In addition, you need to consider the design of your application. A written specification is nice (and required for larger companies), but just the act of thinking about what you want to do is essential.

Chapter 5 is the first language-specific chapter in the book. This chapter helps VBA users get started using Google Web Services. You'll discover how to perform specific kinds of analysis, store data for later use, and create reports based on the information you find. I chose VBA as the first language to present because many people rely on this language to work with Office and other applications. In general, Chapter 5 demonstrates that VBA is quite capable of doing amazing things with Google Web Services, and you won't find many limits of the other languages.
