Guangdong is rich in mineral resources with more than 50 kinds of proven mineral ores, mostly non-ferrous metals, including tungsten, tin, antimony, molybdenum, copper , lead, zinc and gold. Rare metals include monazite, niobium and zircon. At the Beibu Bay and in the shallow waters of Leizhou Peninsula in the west of Guangdong, oil has been discovered and exploited. The province also abounds in oil shale.
