The SUSE Linux DVD-ROM

Included with this book is a DVD-ROM containing the full hard disk installation of SUSE Linux 9.1. This is the version of Linux used during the writing of this book, and all references made throughout Beginning SUSE Linux refer to it specifically.

Just as we were finishing production of this book, SUSE released version 9.2 of SUSE Linux. This mostly polishes SUSE Linux and isn't very different from 9.1. Practically everything described in this book applies equally well to SUSE Linux 9.2 as it does to 9.1.

At the time of writing, a "live eval" version of SUSE Linux 9.2 is available from the SUSE FTP site. A live eval version lets you boot SUSE Linux 9.2 from CD without installing anything to the hard drive. The download address is ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/live-cd-9.2/. If you wish, you can download one of the ISO images (you can choose from a GNOME or KDE CD version, or a DVD that includes both desktop GUI possibilities), then burn a CD/DVD from that image, and then put it in your drive!

Additionally, SUSE usually makes available a special download version of its latest distribution from its web site (www.suse.com). Readers of Beginning SUSE Linux might consider upgrading to this version when they've finished reading the book.
