Charging the iPod's BatteryLike all portable electronic devices, the iPod has an internal battery. If your iPod came with an AC adapter, you should charge its battery before you start using it. If your iPod didn't include an AC adapter, such as the iPod shuffle, skip to the next section. You'll charge its battery when you connect it to your computer. To charge an iPod using its AC adapter, connect the USB 2 to iPod Dock connector cable to the AC adapter (USB end) and to the iPod (the larger end with the Dock connector). Then plug the power adapter into a power outlet. note
When you plug the AC adapter into a wall outlet, the iPod will start up; you can tell this because an Apple logo will appear on its screen. The first time you start an iPod, a language menu will appear. Ignore this for now and just let the iPod start charging. After a moment or two, this menu will go away. While the iPod is charging, a battery icon will appear on its display and the word "Charging" will appear at the top of the screen. According to Apple, the iPod's battery is charged to the 80% level in 3 hours and fully charged in 5 hours. While the iPod is charging, you can proceed with installing its software on your computer. When the iPod is fully charged, the display will contain a "full" battery icon and the status message will be "Charged." Unplug the AC adapter and then disconnect the cable from the power adapter and from the iPod. |
