I call this "folklore" because several Canadian professional engineers have independently told me that the iron in the iron ring traditionally is thought to come from the wreckage of the iron bridge that collapsed in Quebec City in 1907. Published information about the Canadian iron ring ceremony contains no mention of the Quebec City bridge. The ceremony itself might contain mention of this bridge, but it is a secret ceremony.
