The Road Goes Ever Onward | 15.4 Summary When I was 9 years old, there was a movie theater at the end of my street, the Rialto. My friends and I would spend many Saturday afternoons watching various B movies. One such black-and-white classic dealt with the end of the world and some sort of fog that enveloped the earth. For the life of me, the only thing I could remember about the film was the very last scene. After vanquishing the plague that had destroyed mankind, the hero, along with a lovely and voluptuous female costar, walked down a wooded path hand in hand. The words "THE BEGINNING" were emblazoned across the screen. The implication of course was that once out of the prying eye of the camera, they would, like Adam and Eve, set to repopulating the Earth. In a sense, we are in the same place. I began this chapter with a quote from Anne Bradstreet's poem, "The Author to Her Book." Every author I have ever met feels that there is never enough time to complete his or her work. It always feels as if it has been ripped from your loving hands, prematurely thrust into the world. Be that as it may, while this text may draw to a close, it is more of a beginning than an ending. We have introduced many concepts and explored many technologies. It is now up to you to advance IEBI and to make your own organization more intelligent , more competitive, and ultimately more profitable. |
