Summary

In this chapter, we looked at the facilities available in WSE from the WS-Routing and WS- Referral specifications. We looked at allowing the server or the client to determine the path that a message takes to its final destination by using the referral cache on the server or routing details specified in the incoming message.

We also briefly discussed how to create routers on the server that can determine the destination of a request based on either the content of the incoming message or some external factor. In our example, we routed the message based on the time of day, but you’re not really limited in how you can route messages.

We also discussed creating routers that, in addition to using the details specified in the referral cache or in the incoming message, perform their own tasks before allowing the message to be routed to its final destination.
