Summary

This chapter has introduced lists, the Series 60 UI controls used to organize and display collections of items. It described the three main types of list available in Series 60: vertical lists, grids, and settings lists. Vertical lists can be used to present data in a one-dimensional array, while grids allow you to produce a two-dimensional display. User interaction is achieved using techniques to mark or select items from a list. Settings lists are a specific type of list that allow the user to modify configuration settings for your application. A range of example applications were presented to demonstrate how to construct the different types of list and illustrate how they could be used.

When producing applications for a small device, presentation is particularly important. One crucial aspect is consistency of UIs across applications. You are therefore encouraged to consult the Series 60 UI guide (provided with the SDK documentation) to help you decide which UI control is most suitable for a particular situation.
