With so many different reports in Project, you will probably be able to find a report that is designed to compile the information you need. However, if you want to customize some of the finer details of a report, you can.

  1. Select the Workload report category and click Select.

The Workload Reports dialog box appears. Notice the Task Usage report.

  2. Select the Task Usage report and click the Edit button.

The Crosstab Report dialog box appears. You want to define report contents, so...

  3. Click the Definition tab.

    The Definition tab appears.

This is where you can choose what details you want to use to customize your report. The options available will vary depending on the report you're using, but the idea is the same.

To further define this report, let's highlight tasks that have not been completed.

  4. Click the Filter list arrow and select Incomplete Tasks from the list. Click the Highlight checkbox.

Now the report will be filtered and highlighted for incomplete tasks.

Let's also view how much actual work has been done on these tasks.

  5. Click the Work list arrow and select Actual Work from the list.

That's the only defining we'll do for now. Compare your dialog box to Figure 11-7.

  6. Click OK.

You are returned to the Workload Reports dialog box.

Now, preview the Task Usage report to see how the definitions you added changed it.

  7. Make sure the Task Usage report is selected, then click Select.

Your Task Usage report appears in Print Preview, as shown in Figure 11-8. Notice that all of the incomplete tasks are shaded, and actual work for the tasks appears in the chart cells.

  8. Close the report preview and all open dialog boxes.
