Adjusting Object Opacity

 < Day Day Up >

One of the things that gives Keynote its unique graphic look is its ability to control the opacity of objects. By making some objects partially transparent, you can achieve some terrific -looking effects. For example, you can use translucent shapes to create tables that look better than you can achieve using Keynote's regular table tools (you'll find the details of this technique in Chapter 7). Once again, you'll use the Graphic Inspector to change an object's opacity.

To modify the opacity of an object

1.
Select the object.

2.
Drag the slider in the Opacity section of the Graphic Inspector ( Figure 5.53 ) to make the object more or less transparent.

Figure 5.53. Use the Opacity slider in the Graphic Inspector to change the transparency of an object, or type a value in the Opacity field.

or

Type a value into the Opacity field.

The object changes opacity ( Figure 5.54 ).

Figure 5.54. The picture of the older car in the background is at 30% opacity; you can see the background texture through the image. The newer car in the front is at 100% opacity.

Tip

  • There is also an Opacity slider in the Colors window, which controls the opacity of colors applied to fills and other objects. You can use the Opacity slider in the Colors window and the Graphic Inspector to create interesting effects. Experiment and see!
