Total import and export value of Gansu Province in 2000 was US$570 million, up by 40 per cent over US$406 million in 1999.

Total export value was US$415 million, up by 31 per cent over US$317 million in 1999, equivalent to 3.5 per cent to the province's GDP of RMB 98.3 billion (US$11.9 billion) and 0.17 per cent of the total export value of the country. Export of primary goods was US$48.39 million, 12 per cent of the total export value, while the export of manufactured products amounted to US$366.56 million, or 88 per cent of the total export value (see Table 7.28.2).

Total import value was US$155 million, up by 73 per cent over US$83 million in 1999. Import of primary goods came to US$80.93 million, accounting for 52 per cent of the total import value. Import value of manufactured products reached US$73.65 million, or 48 per cent of the total import value (see Table 7.28.3).
