Display your installed printers. See the previous task for help with this step.

Select the printer you want to modify.

Click Set printer properties .

INTRODUCTION

In addition to printing preferences, you can also view and change printer properties. These are more technical details of how your printer works ”for instance, when the printer is available, the port to which the printer is attached, whether printer sharing is enabled, and other options.

TIP

What Is Spooling?

Spooling is the action of copying a document temporarily to the hard disk when printing. The document is then fed to the printer from the spooler. Spooling lets you get back to work within the program faster.

The General tab contains useful information about the features of your printer.

Click the Advanced tab to set when the printer is available as well as spooling options.

View and make changes to any of the other tabs.

Click OK when you are done.

TIP

Other Tabs

Use the Sharing tab to enable printer sharing, usually a network feature. Use the Ports tab to change the port to which the printer is connected. For printer memory and font options, click the Device Settings tab.
