Chapter 17: Configuring J2EE Services

Overview

10g Application Server is a powerful J2EE application server. With it, you can deploy and manage Java applications running on the server side as Java Server Pages (JSPs), Servlets, or Enterprise JavaBeans (EJBs). OC4J is the operating environment for these types of programs. There are multiple configuration options available for OC4J, and useful tuning and monitoring features. Understanding these capabilities will greatly improve your ability to manage J2EE applications. In this chapter, we'll cover the following:

• J2EE overview. The J2EE development and deployment options that are available within 10g AS

• OC4J architecture. How OC4J is structured and executes J2EE requests within 10g AS

• Configuration utilities and options. The multiple configuration tools and options available for deployment of J2EE applications

• Monitoring and tuning utilities. Identification of the multiple performance-monitoring and tuning tools available to the administrator of J2EE applications
