Chapter 14: Tracing the WebFacing Run Time

When running your WebFaced application, you may at times want to know more about what is occurring in your WebFacing environment. You can perform certain actions called tracing and debugging, to learn more about how your application is running. These features, however, are somewhat hidden, so this exercise and the next will show you how they work.

The Goal of the Exercise

The goal of this exercise is to make you aware of tracing capabilities in the WebFacing run time. You will set the tracing levels to a higher value than the default and switch from a lean nontrace run time to one in which tracing is enabled.

At the end of this exercise, you should be able to

  • Locate the Tracing Read Me file

  • Locate the WebFacing run time that allows tracing

  • Rename the WebFacing run times to enable tracing

  • Set the tracing flags to a higher level so that the WebFacing run time gives you useful tracing information

  • Locate the trace log file
