An extension of a network that can be accessed securely through a public network such as the Internet.
Web Service Extensions
The EXE and DLL files required for the specific function that is enabled. For example, for Active Server Pages to be used, the asp.dll file must be enabled. To get a list of the files required for each Web Service Extension, in the IIS Manager MMC, highlight the desired extension and click the Properties button.
Windows File Protection (WFP)
WFP runs in the background and is alerted whenever a file in a protected folder is changed. It determines whether the new version of the file is signed. If it isn't, Windows File Protection automatically rolls back the file to the version kept in the %systemroot%\system32\dllcache folder.
Windows Internet Naming Service (WINS)
A service that dynamically maps IP addresses to NetBIOS computer names used by Microsoft operating systems other than Windows Server 2003.

A utility that can be run on a server to check the software and hardware components for compatibility with Windows Server 2003.
Windows Server Update Services (WSUS)
WSUS is a service installed on an internal Windows 2000 or Windows Server 2003 server that can download all critical updates as they are posted to Microsoft Update. The client computers and servers can be configured through Group Policy or the Registry to contact the internal WSUS server for updates, instead of going out over the Internet to the Microsoft servers. WSUS is basically an internal version of the Microsoft Update service, with the exception that the network administrator has the option to control which updates get downloaded from Microsoft and which ones get installed on the computers in the environment. WSUS is a replacement for the discontinued Software Update Service (SUS).
Windows Update
A Microsoft website (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/) that provides an automated source of operating system fixes, security patches, and updated drivers. Mostly superseded by Microsoft Update.
