PQ

partition

Allows you to subdivide your physical disk into separate logical units of storage.

performance

The measurement of how efficiently a system runs.

permissions

Used to control access, and the type of access granted, to a resource.

plug and play

A technology that allows an operating system to recognize a device, install the correct driver, and enable the device automatically.

policy

A component that automatically configures user settings.

primary partition

Can be used to store a boot record so that you can boot your server from that partition. A hard disk can be configured with one or more (up to four) primary partitions. Primary partitions are used only on basic disks.

print device

The piece of hardware that most people refer to as a printer.

print driver

The software that enables the operating system to communicate with the printing device. The role of the print driver is to accept commands from the operating system and translate them into commands that the print device will understand.

print filters

Can be used to group printers according to various criteria so that they can be found and managed easily.

print management console

A print console, first introduced in release R2, that allows you to manage all printers in your organization from a single console.

print queue

The contents of the spool file. Users have the ability to view the print queue by using the Print Manager applet.

print server

Manages the printer driver settings for all printers connected to it.

print spooler

Also known as the spool file, the print spooler is a service on the print server that manages the data to be printed. This service also contains the print data and the print devicespecific commands needed to format the printed output.

printer pool

A form of load balancing in that two or more print devices are represented by a single printer. When a print device finishes a print job, it receives the next job in the queue. You never have multiple jobs waiting for a specific printer while another printer is idle.

printer priority

Used to set the default importance of the print jobs in the queue. Priority can be set from 1 to 99. The job assigned the higher numerical number is printed first.

quota

The amount of disk space allotted to a user. It can be defined in any increment from kilobytes to terabytes. Quotas can be applied to either new or existing volumes or folders.

quota limit

Quota limits can be either Hard or Soft. A hard quota will prevent the user from saving any more files. A soft quota will warn users, but will let them continue to save files. The soft quotas are typically used for space monitoring purposes.

quota template

Similar to a group policy for quotas. After it is configured, it can be applied to multiple machines.
