Switching between Photoshop and the Finder

Switching between Photoshop and the Finder

In back of the myriad desktop elements of Photoshop, Mac users can probably see the icons and open windows from the Finder. If you click a Finder element or anywhere on the desktop, you’re taken back to the Finder, and the Photoshop desktop elements disappear. If an image is open, however, the image window remains visible. Here are some tips to help you manage working between the Finder and Photoshop.

  • If you inadvertently click yourself out of Photoshop, click the Photoshop icon in the Dock, located at the bottom, left, or right side of your screen (depending on where you positioned it). Or just click the Photoshop image window. The Toolbox and palettes return to the screen to show you that Photoshop is back in the game.

  • When using Photoshop, you may find that the clutter from the Finder gets somewhat distracting. Choose Photoshop→Hide Others to hide every Finder element except the icons.

  • You can hide the Dock by choosing Apple→Dock→Turn Hiding On.
