Transfer a File

The way you transfer a file is also similar to the way you make a call or send an IM.

To transfer a file, follow these steps:

1.

Select a Skype Name in your Contacts List and then click the Send File icon.

2.

Right-click a Skype Name in your Contacts List, and select Send File from the context menu (see Figure 4-20).

(Mac users: Control-click the Skype Name, and choose Send File from the context menu.)

You can send files only to people who have authorized you to see their contact details, and the recipient of the file transfer must be online to accept the transfer before it can go through.

3.

If you need to request someone's details, right-click the contact, and select Request Contact Details from the context menu.

(Mac users: Control-click the contact, and select Request Authorization from the context menu.)

Note

Skype allows system administrators to disable the file-transfer capability. If the Skype application user interface for transferring files is grayed out, it means that someone has configured your Skype application to prevent you from sending or receiving files in this fashion. Refer to Appendix B or consult your system administrator for clarification or help.
