Fibre Channel

As previously stated, Fibre Channel (FC) does not inherently provide any OSI Layer 3 functionality. However, the FC-BB specification series enables the use of other network technologies to connect geographically dispersed Fibre Channel storage area networks (FC-SANs). This is commonly called FC-SAN extension. Such extensions are often deployed for disaster recovery applications, and often leverage IP networks.
