Post Effects

Video Post: Although Maya has no interface like Video Post, it still offers Glow, Depth of Field, and Lens Flare effects:

  • Glow You set this effect under the material's Special Effects section of the Attribute Editor for most material types. The glow intensity is mappable and usually controlled by maps if the glow shouldn't appear on the entire object.

  • Depth of Field This effect is set as a camera attribute. In general, the results are much better than with max's Z-buffer based Depth of Field (DOF), because Maya actually raytraces the DOF effect.

  • Lens Flare The Lens Flare effect appears in the Optical FX Attributes section in the Light Effects Attribute Editor for a specific light source. When you click the map icon, an opticalFX node is created (see Figure A.25). Here, you can create all manner of flares, twinkles, and fiery noise effects.

Figure A.25. You can edit many parameters for unique Lens Flare effects.
