Deleting a WordPress Blog

If you decide you no longer want to maintain a blog, you can delete it. How you delete it depends on how the blog is installed.

If you have a WordPress.com blog, you can delete it from the Delete Blog administration panel.
If you have a WordPress server installation blog, you can delete it by removing it from your Web server.

Tip

If you delete your blog, its contents will be lost forever. Make sure you really want to delete your blog before you do.

1.	If necessary, log in to your WordPress blog and navigate to the Dashboard administration panel.
2.	Click the Options button.
3.	If necessary, click the Delete Blog button in the second row of buttons. The Delete Blog administration panel appears (Figure 9). Figure 9. The Delete Blog administration panel on a WordPress.com blog.
4.	Read what's on the page carefully.
5.	Turn on the check box near the bottom of the page.
6.	Click Delete My Account Permanently. A confirmation window like the one in Figure 10 appears. Figure 10. WordPress confirms that you've asked to delete your blog.
7.	Check your e-mail. You should receive a message from your blog (Figure 11). Figure 11. You must click the link in the confirmation e-mail you receive to delete the blog.
8.	Click the link in the e-mail message. Your blog is deleted.

1.	Delete all WordPress files.
2.	Delete the WordPress MySQL database you created for the blog.

Tips

How you delete the WordPress files and MySQL database depends on your access to the server. In most instances, you'll use the same tools you used to install the WordPress files and create the database. See Chapter 1 for additional information.
If your WordPress blog had its own domain name, you should replace it with other Web content or modify settings on your DNS server to point that domain name to another Web site. If necessary, consult your ISP or system administrator for details. A discussion of DNS is beyond the scope of this book.
