Opening Word


To use Word, you must open the Word program.

To open Word by opening its application icon

1.

In the Finder, locate the Microsoft Word application icon (Figure 1). It should be in the Microsoft Office 2004 folder in your Applications folder.

Double-click the icon.

The Word splash screen appears briefly (Figure 2), then the Project Gallery window appears (Figure 3).

Tip

  • You can disable the display of the Project Gallery window at startup. I explain how in Chapter 20.


To open Word by opening a Word document

1.

In the Finder, locate the icon for the document that you want to open (Figure 4).

Double-click the icon.

The Word splash screen appears briefly (Figure 2), and then a document window containing the document you opened appears (Figure 5).
