Quitting Word


When you're finished using Word, you should use the Quit command to close the program. This makes more of the computer's resources available for other applications that you use so your computer can work more efficiently.

Tip

  • Quitting Word also instructs Word to save preference settings and any changes to the Normal template.


To exit Word

Choose Word > Quit Word (Figure 6) or press .

Here's what happens:

  • If any documents are open, they close.

  • If an open document contains unsaved changes, a dialog appears (Figure 7) so you can save the changes. Saving documents is discussed later in this chapter.

  • The Word program closes.

Tip

  • As you've probably guessed, Word automatically quits when you restart or shut down your computer.
