About the Desktop Application Agent

The ZENworks for Servers 3 Desktop Application agent is the TED agent that allows you to distribute ZENworks for Desktops Application objects through the TED channel. The Desktop Application agent is responsible for keeping track of the Application object-specific information as the package is distributed through the channel so that it can be maintained when it reaches the destination subscriber.

Once you have set up the Application object through the wizard, the ZENworks for Servers distributor will read the objects' properties in eDirectory and determine the location of the source files. Next, it will determine the associations with other Application objects, application folder objects, chained applications, and containers. It will package the associations data into an .XML file and package it with the Application objects source files, including the source files of any associated Application objects, into a .CPK file to be distributed though the TED channel.

When the package is distributed through the ZENworks for Servers channel, subscriber servers extract the package including the source files and XML data and replicate the Application object in their tree locations. The subscriber can be in a different location and even in an entirely different tree.

NOTE

You must install ZENworks for Servers policy-enabled Distribution Services to have access to the Desktop Application agent.
