The typographical conventions used in this book were designed to enable you to select what you need and use it effectively. We present model components in formats that allow you to find them quickly on the page. Figures 2.2 through 2.4 are sample pages from Part Two of this book; they show the different process area components, labeled so that you can identify them. Notice that components differ typographically so that you can easily identify each one. Figure 2.2. Sample Page from Process and Product Quality AssuranceFigure 2.3. Sample Page from Technical SolutionFigure 2.4. Sample Page from Integrated Project ManagementRepresentation-Specific ContentIn Part Two, you will notice that some components of the process areas are shaded and labeled "Staged Only," "Continuous Only," or "Continuous/Maturity Levels 3 5." Sometimes these labels are abbreviated, if the amount of space available makes it necessary. Components that are not marked apply to both representations. Components marked "Staged Only" apply only if you are using the staged representation. Components marked "Continuous Only" apply only if you are using the continuous representation. (See Figure 2.4 for an example.) Components marked "Continuous/Maturity Levels 3 5" apply if you are using the continuous representation OR if you are using the staged representation and are pursuing maturity levels 3, 4, or 5. However, these components DO NOT apply if you are pursuing a maturity level 2 rating using the staged representation. Discipline-Specific ContentA subset of the Integrated Project Management process area is only used when you have included integrated product and process development in your process-improvement program. The "IPPD Only" marking (similar to the other markings for representations) enables you to easily identify these components. |
