Chapter 11. Issues with WAS and Domino Together

"The idea is to get the two brands working together, not make them one. Future versions of Domino will have tighter alignment with DB2, Tivoli, and WebSphere."

Al Zoller, head of Lotus (at that time), at LotuSphere 2002, February 2002

In this chapter, we examine the issues that often arise when WebSphere Application Server and Domino are used together. Ideally, we want to have the combined system appear as "seamless" as possible to the end user . Some of the issues that need to be addressed to achieve a seamless integration are shared authentication or "Single Sign-On," the use of clustering, performance and high availability issues, and issues with building high-capacity combined systems. The chapter is intended to present the set of integration issues and give an overview of each. Chapters 12 through 15 look at depth into each of these issues, so you can look at this chapter as providing a "lead in" to each of the WAS and Domino together issues that will each be discussed in detail in later chapters.
