Section 8.7. Conclusion

8.7. Conclusion

Most likely, RFID will not offer every business compelling reasons to adopt it in the near term. However, the decision to use or not to use RFID should not be determined subjectively based on the hype or sweeping negative opinions about the technology. This chapter examined a method to objectively analyze business parameters to determine why and where RFID should be used. If the business is already facing an RFID mandate from its major customers, the decision to use RFID most probably has already been made. The business could use a slap-and-ship approach to meet this mandate while minimizing the time, effort, and resources required. However, the optimum benefit from RFID will be realized only when the business itself assimilates and uses the technology. To this end, the business can at least initiate the business analysis needed to justify using RFID for its own use. It might be pleasantly surprised at the result.
