Speed 2: image-correction and prepress tips

We're getting near the end of the book, and I'm growing tired. Dark figures dance across the windows like so many shadows gathering dust for the fall harvest (see, this is why they don't let me write chapter intros at 2:30 a.m. anymore). Originally, this chapter was going to be a catchall chaptera place for all those tips that couldn't find a home by the end of the book, but as luck would have it, we had so many image-correction and prepress tips, they actually took over the catchall chapter by force.

Now, because we stuck these image- correction and prepress tips at the back of the book, does it mean that these tips aren't as good, aren't as important, or aren't as cool as the tips in all the other chapters? Yes, that's exactly what it means. These are the tips that just aren't worth a darn, so don't even waste your time reading them, because, frankly, I'm not sure how many of them really work. Oh, I'm sure one or two do, but at this point, I'm just making stuff up.

I know there are many new users of Photoshop that will be reading this book, so I think a description of the term "prepress" is in order. "Pre," as you know, means before, and "press" is derived from the Latin word meaning "to unwrinkle one's pants with an iron." So, basically, read this chapter before you wrinkle your pants.
