Diagnosing and Repairing Problems

At times you may determine that PowerPoint is not working as efficiently as it once did. This sometimes happens when you install new software or move files into new folders. Use the Diagnose command (New!) to improve performance by repairing problems, such as missing files from setup, corrupted file by malicious viruses, and registry settings. Note that this feature does not repair personal files, such as your presentations. If the Diagnose command does not fix the problem, you might have to reinstall PowerPoint. If you need to add or remove features, reinstall PowerPoint, or remove it entirely, you can use Office Setup's maintenance feature.

Diagnose and Repair Problems

Click the Office button, and then click PowerPoint Options.

In the left pane, click Resources.

Click Diagnose.

Timesaver

In Windows, click Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft Office, point to Microsoft Office Tools, and then click Microsoft Office Diagnostics.

  • Setup. Checks for corrupt files and registry settings.

  • Disk. Checks error logs.

  • Memory. Checks integrity of computer RAM.

  • Update. Checks for Office updates on Web.

  • Compatibility. Checks for conflicts with Outlook.

  • Check for known solutions. Checks data on Office program crashes on your computer.
