The next chapter consists entirely of an e-commerce case study. The case study takes you start to finish through the building process of a complete online store. In the process, we'll write regular Java classes to represent objects in our store (such as the products) and use JavaBeans to unify working with the catalog. We also keep an eye on separating presentation from business by writing custom tags to handle shopping cart interaction. Finally, we'll incorporate a number of different tags from the JSTL to see how they interoperate .
What the store example affords is a number of things: we get to see all of the different aspects of JSP mentioned above, as well as directives, scriptlets, expressions, and request and session variables , interacting in a complete application. It also highlights exactly how you can write a fairly portable and flexible JSP application that allows you to reuse components and change entirely the look and feel of the site for your own use.
