Chapter 5: Runtime Patterns and Product Mappings

 < Day Day Up >

Overview

This chapter focuses on the Patterns for e-business Runtime patterns and product mappings for the Application Integration::Broker application pattern and its Router variation, and the Extended Enterprise::Exposed Broker application pattern and its Router variation.

Selecting a Business pattern and then an Application pattern are the first steps in designing a solution for a business problem. Each Application pattern leads to one or more underpinning Runtime patterns. We can overlay the Application pattern onto the Runtime pattern to identify where business logic is deployed on nodes.

A Runtime pattern uses interconnected nodes that group functional and operational components to solve a business problem. The Runtime patterns illustrated give some typical examples of possible solutions, but should not be considered exhaustive.

Once a Runtime pattern is selected, a set of products to implement the solution can be selected by using the product mappings provided for each Runtime pattern.
