TIP 210: Exploring Collections

Binding Collections to Dynamic Queries

You can create a collection by saving the results of a Find operation, the results of a syntax check, or the results of a query. In all three cases, the results window will have a button called Save Collection. You can also select a collection and then bind it to a query by enabling the Attach checkbox in the Inspector palette and then choosing the query from the list. To update your collection, click the Run button to rerun the query.

Often there are some files in your site that will receive more frequent edits than others. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to access only those pages without having to drill down into various folders to find them? Use GoLive's new Collections feature, and the problem is solved.

To create a collection, follow these easy steps:

1.

Click the Collections tab at the top of the Site window.

2.

Click the Create New Collection button in the Toolbar

3.

Name the Collection.

4.

Drag files from the Files tab of the Site window into the new collection folder in the Collections tab.

That's it. Now when you need to get to that collection of files, just open the collection and use the pages as usual (Figure 210).

Figure 210. Collections are useful for grouping together sets of files that you often need to edit, especially those buried deep in the folder structure.
