Automotive applications are characterized by good positioning, large amounts of on-board storage and computing power, high-speeds that impose real-time constraints on service delivery, and serious product liability exposure. There are approximately ten million in-car navigation systems installed world-wide in 2002, perhaps 75% in Japan, 20% in Europe, and the remainder in North America and Australia. Perhaps two million additional location-aware emergency service units are installed world-wide. The section outlines the deployment of a "sync-and-go" model that works well in the automotive environment.
