These are challenging times for writing secure applications and keeping them secure. In the short term, we should expect to see the security arms race increasing in pace. Thankfully, tools and methods are becoming available for keeping systems secure. It’s also encouraging that the government and major corporations are increasing their focus on security. Hopefully, in the future, the task of keeping applications secure will be built into the operating system and development tools to a much greater degree. Such improvements to applications along with an increased awareness and expertise in developing secure systems might turn the tide in the security war in the favor of the application developer.
