Extra Bits

Sort & Organize Files p. 66

  • In addition to sorting, you can organize files by renaming them in a more orderly way. For instance, if the files all start with the same characters, they'll be easier to scan when sorted by name, for example: Murry Analysis, Murry Analysis (1), Murry Analysis (2), etc.. Windows gives you an easy way to rename a group of files with the same name followed by a number.

Select the files that you want to rename. Right-click one of the selected files and select Rename from the shortcut menu.

Now type a name for the group of files. Hit Enter, and the files will be renamed.

Customize Folder Icons p. 70

  • If Windows' extra folder icons don't excite you, you can add more. Pear Software's Folder Icon XP (http://www.pear-viewer.com/) is a $20 utility that gives you thousands of great-looking icons to choose for your folders. It's easy to use, too.
